McKinney will continue to spray an area of the city tonight after wind deterred the spraying plan for last night.

Crews will spray overnight tonight and tomorrow, Sept. 26 and 27, starting at approximately 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. nightly.

The spray area is generally east of U.S. 75, south of U.S. 380, west of State Highway 5, and north of Louisiana Street. It is occurring in response to laboratory confirmation of a human case of West Nile Virus.

A map of all areas of the city that have been sprayed to treat for West Nile Virus is posted on the city’s website at

Residents in the spray area are advised to stay indoors and bring their pets inside during the spray period.

For more information, or to report standing water and increased mosquito activity, call the West Nile information line at 972-547-7473.

The chemical sprayed during mosquito control measures to combat the West Nile Virus is Aqualuer 20/20, a synthetic compound similar to a chemical that occurs naturally in Chrysanthemums. The MSDS for the compound and the label can be found on the website.
