The competition was fierce and the judging was difficult when Methodist McKinney Hospital’s departments submitted their 15 entries for the third annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest on Tuesday, Oct. 28. This year’s theme was Disney movies. The decorations were impressive and almost as creative as Walt Disney who inspired them.
First and second place were awarded to “Alice in Wonderland” renditions by Radiology and Housekeeping / Facilities / Materials / Rob / IT, and the third place winner was “Genie Aladdin,” created by PACU. Runners-up were fashioned after Sven and Olaf from “Frozen;” “101 Dalmatians” (with 100 mini pumpkins decorated as dalmation pups); “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” as well as “Star Wars,” Edgar from “Frankenweenie” and more.
The judges had as much fun as the employees who made them, and the work was nearly as hard. The McKinney Chamber of Commerce was represented by board member Karen Zupanic, V.P. of J. Preston Automation, in collaboration with Lynne Sipiora, director of The Samaritan Inn; Assistant Chief of Police Joe Ellenburg and Deputy Chief Scott Brewer; as well as Terry and Dyna Martin, Directors of Programs and Publicity for McKinney Community Concert Association. Lunch was served by the Hospital Chef, along with Methodist McKinney Hospital President Joe Minissale and Facilities Manager Gregory Youngs. It is rumored that the departments are already thinking about next Halloween.
Methodist McKinney Hospital is located at 8000 W. Eldorado Pkwy. in McKinney.
