In conjunction with this year’s 12th Annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of McKinney we are hoping to spread that cancer fighting spirit throughout our community for the two weeks (April 13-26) prior to the event. Our goal is to “Paint the Town Purple” with a two-week pep rally in the city of McKinney, all leading up to the event at the Ballfields at Craig Ranch on April 26. Mayor Brian Loughmiller will officially kick-off Paint The Town Purple.

For those of you that are asking “What is Relay For Life?”

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer or are currently battling cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has touched all of us in one way or another.

At Relay For Life, teams of people camp out, overnight at The Ballfields at Craig Ranch and take turns walking or running around the track. Each team is asked to have someone on the track at all times. Why overnight? Because cancer never sleeps! Why should we?

Currently, Relay For Life of McKinney is the third largest event in our region. We are third behind the Bay Area and Guam. Yes – Guam. Our goal is to put the City of McKinney on the map as The Largest Relay For Life Event in our region. For more information on Relay For Life visit our website at

This year’s Relay For Life of McKinney event is sponsored by Darling Homes.

This year we are incorporating Paint The Town Purple into our event. Our goal is to have the city of McKinney bathed in a sea of purple for the two weeks prior to the event on April 26 at the Ballfields of Craig Ranch. We are asking for creativity and cancer fighting spirit to spread throughout our streets, schools and businesses. We challenge you to tie purple ribbons on every available pole like surface in and around your business; decorate your windows, doors, walls, fences; challenge your employees to have a Purple Out; form a Relay For Life team; raise funds and then come out for an amazing night of cancer-fighting fun.
