McKinney, Texas – To get the best care when having a stroke, you need to have speed, expertise and experience on your side. Medical Center of McKinney’s primary stroke center is certified to provide all three. Medical Center of McKinney, a Primary Stroke Center since 2007, has just earned its fifth re-certification as a Primary Stroke Center from The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.

“The Primary Stroke Center certification gives us an opportunity to highlight the exceptional stroke care we provide for our patients, and help us improve care overall for our community,” said Ernest C. Lynch, III, FACHE, MCM Chief Executive Officer.

Stroke is a leading cause of serious long-term disability in U.S. Adults and is the fifth leading cause of death. Medical Center of McKinney’s stroke team follows the best practices for stroke care and demonstrates a commitment to the highest level of care for stroke patients.

Two keys to reducing stroke-related disability and death are rapid diagnosis and treatment. Among other things, our stroke center offers:

  • A 24/7 acute stroke team. The team includes a physician and others experienced in stroke diagnosis and treatment.
  • Excellent coordination with emergency medical services personnel. This allows care to start before the patient reaches the emergency room door.
  • Fast access to brain imaging services. That cuts the time it takes to diagnose and treat a stroke.

Call 911 immediately if you recognize signs of a stroke in yourself or someone else. Symptoms include sudden:

  • Numbness or weakness in the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body.
  • Trouble speaking or understanding.
  • Trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
  • Trouble walking, dizziness or loss of balance.
