McKINNEY (March 18, 2014) — While enjoying a day off work, McKinney Police Corporal Melissa Taylor saw a citizen in distress in the parking lot of a local fast food restaurant. She knew exactly what to do and immediately initiated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, commonly known as CPR.

Thanks to Corporal Taylor’s training and quick response, the patient survived and is now recovering. In a note to Corporal Taylor, the patient’s daughter expressed the thanks of her family, “... The doctors say you saved his life. There are no words to express our gratitude ...”

CPR is a life-saving measure everyone should learn – you don’t need to be a medical professional. Knowing CPR empowers you to help someone who is in distress. You never know when you may need this skill to save the life of a loved one, or even a complete stranger.

“Bystander CPR saved this patient’s life,” commented McKinney Assistant Fire Chief Tim Mock. “Corporal Taylor’s actions revived and kept this gentleman alive until emergency medical crews arrived.”
