McKINNEY (Sept. 12, 2013) – The second annual Healthy at H-E-B Community Challenge has begun, and McKinney is in it to win it. The eight-week competition challenges communities across the state to demonstrate a commitment to healthy living. During the inaugural competition last year, McKinney ranked third in the Mid-Size City category. This year, McKinney is competing in the Large City category with a goal to finish number one.
“Like the Mayor’s Health Partnership, the Healthy at H-E-B Community Challenge is designed to provide an easy and fun way for the entire community to strive for better health,” said Mayor Brian Loughmiller. “We take the theme – It’s Time Texas – to heart in our community. It’s time for our community to show the state and the country that McKinney is the healthiest city.”
The H-E-B Community Challenge runs through Nov. 1 and works on a point system. Points are earned online at HEBcommunitychallenge.com by posting proof of various activities aimed at individuals, schools, businesses and organizations. Mayor Loughmiller has taken the pledge to declare his support for the challenge, and he says community support is necessary.
“I have seen first-hand through many groups and events the personal commitment many individuals and businesses have towards health and wellness in McKinney. If we all take a few minutes to declare our support through the H-E-B Challenge website, I know our combined efforts will show what a healthy, active city we live in,” said Mayor Loughmiller.
Schools, businesses and individuals can earn points by taking the online It’s Time Texas pledge. Further points are awarded for showcasing healthy activities happening on school campuses, in neighborhoods and in the workplace.
The more activities McKinney groups participate in or host, the more points earned for our city. All activities are tracked online at HEBcommunitychallenge.com. More information about how the community can help McKinney in the H-E-B Community Challenge is online facebook.com/mckinneyhealth.
