McKINNEY (Jan. 30, 2015) — On Wednesday, Feb. 18, women in Dallas/Fort Worth can take advantage of an informal opportunity to learn about cardiac and other health issues by attending a free luncheon and panel discussion with a physician, clinical dietitian and fitness expert at Baylor Medical Center at McKinney. Please call 1-800-4BAYLOR (422-9567) to make a reservation.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for U.S. women, killing 292,188 women in 2009 – that’s 1 in every 4 female deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Almost two-thirds of women who die suddenly of coronary heart disease have no previous symptoms. Even if a woman has no symptoms, she could still be at risk for heart disease.

Although heart disease is often considered a "man's disease," about the same number of U.S. women and men die each year of heart disease. Despite increases in awareness over the past decade, only 54 percent of women recognize that heart disease is their No. 1 killer.
