Each year, Baylor Health Care System holds the Bill Aston Quality Summit Awards in honor of Bill Aston, a former longtime board member and champion for safe, quality care. In anticipation of the awards ceremony, hospitals across the Baylor system submit quality improvement projects that align with its four pillars: people, quality, service and finance.
This year, Baylor Medical Center at McKinney team took home first place in the finance pillar for its work on reducing readmissions. The project was led by Kim Morris, director of social work and care coordination on staff at Baylor McKinney.
One of just four first place winners out of approximately 50 entries, their efforts also led to improved patient care and outcomes, as well as financial savings. “I am so proud of the outcomes our team has achieved,” Morris says. “We fully committed ourselves to this effort, and our patients are experiencing an improved quality of life and more successful self-care outside of the hospital as a result.”
