Registration for McKinney Little League Baseball is now open and is planning some exciting things for opening day on Saturday, Feb. 28. Like last year, there will be a parade, home run derby and a great event for the whole family. Also planned are a few surprises that will enhance the kid’s experience this year. Who knows, Deuce from the Frisco RoughRiders might show up again!
Founded in 1997, the McKinney Little League Baseball, Inc., is part of North Texas District 8 National Charter, and the league size has ranged from 1,000 to 1,200 players in ages 5 through 16.
If you have a son or daughter interested in baseball, register now and get them placed on a team. There are teams in all age groups, from Beginners T-Ball to the Juniors division. If you watched the Little League World Series on TV this past year you saw what is possible with the Majors Division (Ages 11-12) where they have the opportunity to make it all the way to Williamsport, Pa., for a chance to play in Little League World Series. Other divisions also have opportunities for All-Star teams and to play for district championships as well.
The teams play a spring season from February to May with All-Stars continuing through August. The fall season focuses on skill development and conditioning, while the spring season offers a competitive 10- to 12-game season followed by a playoff tournament and All Star teams.
The organization is fueled by a volunteer coaching staff and other volunteers passionate about baseball. Coaching clinics are provided as well as players camps for additional skills development.
In 2014, both the Minors and Majors All-Star Teams made it further than any other teams in years past.
Coaches meeting is scheduled for Jan., 31 where the coming season will discussed and answer all questions regarding uniforms, equipment, scheduling practices and games and sponsorships. Come be a part of a great sports organization for the youth.
