McKinney golfer Brenden Pappas advanced to the next stage after finishing in a tie for 15th at the PGA Tour Qualifying School tournament held Nov. 13-16 at TPC Craig Ranch. The top 20 and ties advance to play in the final stage, Nov. 28-Dec. 3 at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif.

Pappas finished at 12-under-par 276 for the four-day tournament, including a 68 in the final round.

Prosper's Scott Gutschewski won the tournament, finishing at 20-under 268, one shot ahead of Scott Dunlap of Duluth, Ga. All four of Gutschewski's rounds were in the 60s (67-66-67-68). He finished 49th in earnings on this past season's Tour.

Other Dallas-area players who advanced were Jason Schultz of Allen, Steven Bowditch of Addison, Paul Stankowski of Flower Mound, James Nitties of Dallas, Tag Ridings of Keller and Todd Hamilton of Westlake.

University of Texas golfer Jordan Spieth finished in a tie for 26th and did not advance. The 19-year-old sensation hails from Dallas and attended high at Jesuit. Spieth finished three strokes behind the cut.

Other notable players who made the cut include former British Open winner Todd Hamilton and Norway's Joakim Mikkelsen, who won the 2012 Big 12 Championship while at Baylor.
