The McKinney North girls basketball team concluded their most successful season in school history in a bittersweet way, losing in the Class 4A state championship game to Canyon High School, 49-42, on Saturday, March 1, at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin.
Mikaehla Connor led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 13 points while Chanterria Jackson added 10.
McKinney North reached the championship game by beating San Antonio Brennan 37-35 in the state semifinals on Thursday. It was the Lady Bulldogs’ first trip to the state tournament.
Prior to the loss, the Lady Bulldogs enjoyed a 16-game win streak, including six in the UIL playoffs. McKinney North’s last loss was to Killeen Ellison in the Sandra Meadows Classic in late December in Duncanville. They finished the season with a record of 29-5 overall and 14-0 in District 13-4A.
Earlier in the playoffs, McKinney North beat Mount Pleasant, Red Oak, Arlington Seguin, Frisco Liberty and The Colony.
