Chris Ward of McKinney hit an eagle on the final hole to secure a two-stroke win at the 43rd Bright Realty Texas State Open, held Aug. 1-4 at The Lakes at Castle Hills in Lewisville.

Ward posted a final round score of 4-under-par 68 to beat John Kimbrell of San Antonio and Stuart Deane of Arlington. Ward was 14-under-par for the tournament and shot in the 60s for three of his four rounds.

Ward won the first place prize money amount of $25,000 for victory. He also became the third golfer to win the Texas State Open after having previously won the Texas State Amateur Championship. The other two golfers are PGA legend Ben Crenshaw and Terry Snodgrass.

Another McKinney golfer, amateur Derek Oland, finished in a tie for 14th place, shooting a 7-under-par 281 for the tournament. McKinney golfer Chad Moscovic played one round and did not make the cut to advance.
