The McKinney boys varsity lacrosse team competed in the state playoffs in Austin last weekend (May 7-8). They defeated San Antonio TMI in regionals, 21-6, qualifying for super regionals against Westlake. On Sunday they defeated Westlake, 12-9, making it to the Final 4 for the second straight year.

"Our boys came together to accomplish our goal of getting back to the Final 4 again this year," coach Brendan Carney said. "Competition was good. I believe our boys are ready to take that next step and make it to the state finals."

The McKinney squad will face Rockwall at 10 a.m. in the semifinals in Allen on Saturday, May 14.

The McKinney girls varsity team also played in the Division I quarterfinals match, losing to the eventual three-time state champion St. John's Mavericks. The girls finished their first season in Division I play third in the North Division and eighth overall in the state. An amazing showing for our small squad of girls under the leadership of first year coach Katie Leech. Graduating only three seniors, they look to be back in the thick of the state championships next year.
