The McKinney Police Department wants to remind all citizens that summer is upon us and school is letting out this week. With summer here and children out and about we want to take a moment to review golf cart safety.
The Texas Transportation Code 502.001(18) states that “golf cart” means a motor vehicle designed by the manufacture primarily for the use on a golf course. If you are operating a golf cart, you must be a licensed driver and follow all traffic laws.
Safety reminders include:
- Operator must be a licensed driver
- Golf carts may not be driven on sidewalks or hike/bike trails
- Follow the manufacturer’s safety passenger guidelines
Let us work together in helping to educate the community on golf cart safety. The McKinney Police Department wants all of its citizens to be safe when operating a golf cart. Following these safety reminders will ensure a safe and fun summer. Any citizen who observes illegal operation of golf carts is encouraged to contact the Traffic Unit at 972-547-2835 or report the incident via the online form at mckinneytexas.org.
