Former McKinney High School softball star Jennifer Gilbert was named as the Player of the Year in the Mid-American Conference for 2013.

Gilbert is a junior outfielder and right-handed pitcher at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind.

Gilbert became just the fourth player in conference history to win the Player of the Year Award twice, having also won in 2012. In her three years at Ball State, she has built up quite a collection of honors, including First Team All-Conference (2012-13), All-Freshman Team (2011) and MAC Player of the Week (eight times total, including four this season).

Her performance for the season included single-season school records for home runs (21), runs batted in (65) and total bases (150), breaking records she had set in 2012.

Gilbert has a career total of 54 home runs, which is 11th-best among all active NCAA Division I players and three shy of the conference career record of 57. Her season is not yet over as there is still the conference tournament and possibly the NCAA Tournament.
