FC Dallas dropped its first road match of the season with a 3-1 loss at Chivas USA on Sunday afternoon.

The visiting side took an early second-half lead behind a fantastic finish from captain David Ferreira in the 57th minute. Kenny Cooper found Ferreira at midfield and the Colombian played a little give-and-go with Fabian Castillo before dribbling downfield.

Isolated on the wing, Ferreira sliced through the Chivas defense to find himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, who closed the near post gap to show Ferreira a tough angle. However, the former MLS MVP calmly slotted the ball under Kennedy’s outside glove to give Dallas the early lead.

Slightly more than 10 minutes later, Juan Agudelo found the equalizer for Chivas with a class goal of his own. Walter Vilchez sent a perfectly weighted ball over the top for the young forward. Under pressure from Matt Hedges, Agudelo used his right instep to cut the ball back to his left, turning the second-year center back and giving himself enough space to tuck a left-footed shot inside the near post.

Oswaldo Minda put Chivas on top in the 76th minute, pouncing on a defensive miscue in the box to come up with a loose ball and send a right-footed shot past goalkeeper Raul Fernandez to make it 2-1 in favor of the home side.

Despite continued pressure from the visitors, it was former Dallas man Eric Avila who helped put the game on ice in stoppage time, launching a quick counter attack off a Dallas corner kick. Avila raced 80 yards down field before sending a diagonal ball into space for Edgar Meija who sent it back across the box for Giovani Casillas. Casillas capitalized on the three-on-one breakaway opportunity with an easy finish and the third Chivas USA goal of the afternoon.
