Race into Memorial Day weekend and witness the non-stop thrills and the occasional spills during the 8th annual Bike the Bricks on Friday, May 26. Spectators will have front-row seats as more than 500 cyclists from around the globe take to the bricks and tight turns of historic downtown at speeds up to 40 miles per hour in continuous races throughout the evening. Bike the Bricks, presented by the City of McKinney and McKinney Velo, has grown into the largest one-day cycling race in Texas and features nail-biting closed-course interval races, food, craft beer, festivities and a purse worth more than $25,000.
Family-friendly Entertainment and Food
Live music will play simultaneously during the criterium races. Infinite Journey, Texas’ premier Journey tribute band, will headline the concert with a performance at 9 p.m. on the Deep Ellum Brewing Company main stage located on Virginia Street. Additional entertainment will be provided throughout the evening from J.R. Byrd, and The Buffalo Ruckus. Those in attendance can also enjoy craft beer and festival foods featuring A Taste of Cuba, the Twin Taco Food Truck, Frios Gourmet Pops, and Smoken S Barbeque. Younger attendees can participate in a Kid Safety Area cycling course, a climbing wall and inflatable soccer goal from FC Dallas. In addition, spectators will enjoy a special exhibition of European sports cars with support from the Italian Car Club of the Southwest.
Warm-up laps for the races begin at 2:30 p.m., and the first of 14 races kicks off at 3 p.m. The course lights up into the evening and features the final pro-series race starting at 10:45 p.m. Admission to the event is free to the public, and free parking is available throughout the eleven parking lots surrounding the downtown square. Spectators can also park off-site at First McKinney Baptist Church, 1615 W. Louisiana St., and enjoy round-trip transportation. Shuttle departs every 15 minutes.
