Pick up Reading Logs May 21; Kick-off Party June 8

Wylie's Smith Library Summer Reading Club begins May 21 and runs through Aug. 4, with free programs, activities and events, encouraging kids, teens, and adults to read all summer long. Participants are welcome from Wylie and surrounding areas. This year's theme is "Libraries Rock."

Participants may pick up a reading log May 21 and keep track of the number of books or hours read until Aug. 4. Turn in logs between June 18 and Aug. 4, receive a reward, and be entered to win the grand prize, awarded in three age groups.

Kicking it Off

The fun starts with a free kick-off party, co-hosted by the library and Wylie Recreation Center, from 9 to 11:45 a.m. Friday, June 8. Kids can jump in a bounce house, fly down an inflatable slide, groove to music by DJ RJ Spinners, pet animals, make a hat with the Rad Hatter, laugh at Boocoos the Clown, go on a train ride, and experience science with the Perot Tech Truck. Dress in cool clothing; most activities take place outside, between the library and rec center, 300 Country Club Rd., Wylie. Overflow parking is available at Wylie High School with free shuttle.

Kids

For every 25 books or 10 hours read, kids entering fifth grade or younger will get a certificate and free paperback book, while supplies last. Each completed log means a chance to win a Kindle Fire HD 7" Kids Edition Tablet 8 GB; a family membership for four to The Crayola Experience at the Shops at Willow Bend; or a Curious George doll and book set.

Teens

Teens in sixth through 12th grade may complete five reading activities for a paperback book, while supplies last, and a chance to win one of these grand prizes: State Fair Season Pack Combo for Two; STEAM online gaming $100 gift card; Kindle Fire HD 7" 8 GB; Uppercase Book Box three-month subscription.

Adults

Readers age 18 and older are invited to read or listen to three books and attend Adults events to complete a log. Return your first log for a free drink at Shoemaker & Hardt. Keep reading! All logs are entered into the grand prize drawings for: Sports Prize -- Texas Rangers tickets $100 gift card, VIP guided tour for two of Frisco's The Star, Dallas Cowboys headquarters; Theater Prize -- Dallas Summer Musicals $150 gift certificate; Game Prize - Super NES Classic console, Catan board game, fifth edition; or Museum Prize -- one-year membership plus Kids Club, Dallas Museum of Arts.
