CASA of Collin County partners with local Police & Fire Departments on a charity calendar
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Collin County is pleased to announce the 2018-2019 Fire & Ice 18 Month Calendar, featuring representatives from local police and fire departments. This project features public servants from Allen, Frisco, McKinney, Plano, Prosper and Wylie. Each year CASA of Collin County holds a themed Gala to raise funds for the work they do with abused and neglected children caught up in the child welfare system. The 2018 Voice for Children Fire & Ice Gala will be held on April 21, 2018, at The Renaissance Dallas at Plano Legacy West Hotel.
"Children enter foster care feeling scared and alone. CASA provides a caring and consistent adult to help the child navigate the lengthy and complicated foster care system" said Susan Etheridge, Executive Director of CASA of Collin County. "The Voice for Children Gala ensures that we will be able to continue serving 100% of children in care, children who face unimaginable trauma and loss." The Gala serves as one of the biggest fundraisers for CASA and the committee, who works on the event year-round, continually seeks ways to increase the reach of CASA’s message. Jan Bonafede-Smith, the 2018 Gala Chair had the idea to follow the theme of Fire & Ice and create a calendar to support the advocacy for abused and neglected children, which is provided at no cost to the families or taxpayers. “When thinking of ways to make this year’s Gala better than ever, I had what some may call an out of the box idea. When I first thought Fire and Ice, I immediately thought Firefighters, fire, and Police, Ice” said Jan. “I had a dream to connect our county’s fire and ice and feature them in a calendar. So, CASA put out a call to our county’s public servants, and we were so moved by the amount of dedicated public servants who answered the call.”
One of the calendar’s participants, Joshua Boyd of the Allen Fire Department didn’t hesitate to say yes in partnering with CASA on this project. “Many of the calls we run involve children. They are hurt and looking for someone to trust. That’s what I love about CASA” said Boyd. “CASA Volunteers act as the person these children can trust in. They provide the help children need while speaking up for their best interest in court.”
Collin County is home to several of the fastest growing cities in the nation. As we are seeing an unprecedented rise in population, agencies in the child welfare field are also seeing a rise in the number of reports of child abuse and neglect. “This calendar sends the important message that we are unified as a community against child abuse and neglect,” said Susan Etheridge. “Public servants from 6 different cities took the time to participate in this project because they recognized the importance of the work done by our CASA Volunteers. We are grateful to the men and women who participated in this calendar. Thank you for standing alongside us. It is our hope that this calendar will inspire people in our community to raise their voices and join us in the against child abuse and neglect.”
