McKINNEY, Texas – The City of McKinney Housing and Community Development Department will host the quarterly P.R.I.D.E. meeting Thursday, Nov. 10 to provide a briefing on the Community Revitalization Plan (CRP) and update residents on the city’s efforts to reinstate limited bus service.

“The Community Revitalization Plan is a city sponsored plan for the revitalization of the McKinney Housing Authority Properties. The plan allows the housing authority to bring greater outside equity to the redevelopment to the three remaining properties on the east side of McKinney – Merritt Homes, Cockrell and Lloyd-Owens,” said Janay Tieken, Housing and Community Development Manager.

Newsome Homes, a multifamily development for seniors and persons with disabilities located at the corner of Amscott Street and S.H. 5, is the first MHA property to undergo redevelopment. The property is set to begin pre-leasing in December.

P.R.I.D.E. stands for Promoting Resident Involvement, Development, and Enthusiasm. Neighborhoods without a formal Homeowner Association participate in P.R.I.D.E. activities with the goal of creating involved neighborhoods through mutual responsibility, creative problem solving, and a spirit of teamwork between residents and the city. Activities include revitalization efforts with stakeholders, community engagement and planning.

The city’s Housing and Community Development Department has two divisions – the Community Services Division directs the city’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, Community Support Grants, Fair Housing, Community Economic Development and Public Awareness activities. The Housing Services Division oversees the development of quality, accessible, affordable housing for McKinney residents. Programs include first-time homebuyer assistance, tenant based rental assistance, home repair rehabilitation and the reconstruction of existing housing.

The P.R.I.D.E. meeting will start at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 10 at Old Settler’s Recreation Center, 1201 E. Louisiana St., in the south multi-purpose room. For more information contact Shirletta Best at 972-547-7577 or
