The McKinney Community Band celebrates our beloved country with two evenings of music this week reflecting the rich heritage that has made America great. McKinney's all-volunteer community wind band will be performing first at the City of McKinney’s Jammin’ in June Concert Series on Thursday (June 25) at 7:30 p.m. and again at the McKinney Performing Arts Center on Saturday (June 27), also at 7:30 p.m.
“We’re so excited the City asked us to play as part of the annual Jammin’ in June Summer Concert Series. We’ve been looking forward to performing at Bonnie Wenk Park since it opened,” said MCB President Marsha Hope. “The lakeside band shell is such a beautiful setting for an outdoor concert and we’re looking forward to sharing some rousing patriotic music with the audience. It’ll be a fun casual outdoor concert!”
Jammin’ in June audiences are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, umbrellas, blankets and picnic baskets of refreshments (no alcohol allowed in city parks), as all seating is on the lawn overlooking the water and band shell.
The McKinney Community Band also performs outdoors annually at the Pecan Grove Cemetery Memorial Day Ceremony.
According to Hope, the band always looks forward to their late June concert at the McKinney Performing Arts Center where they will be Saturday evening performing a somewhat different program than the one Thursday evening.
“We have a great time rehearsing together every week, but being able to perform for an appreciative audience is what makes the rehearsal time even more rewarding for our group of volunteer musicians,” Hope said. “Our patriotic and Christmas concert audiences historically have been our biggest and we look forward to seeing both long-time and new friends of the band Saturday evening at MPAC,” Hope said.
As always, the McKinney Community Band concerts are free and open to the public, with no ticket required. The band’s concerts are made possible by a grant from the City of McKinney Arts Commission as well as donations from friends and fans of the band.
