Local and regional singing talent will once again be showcased in the Second Annual McKinney Mash Up, a competition where vocalists compete for $2,500 and the opportunity to open for headliner country duo, Steel Magnolia, winners of CMT’s "Can You Duet."
“We have so much impressive vocal talent in McKinney and all of North Texas,” said Ty Lake, Director of the McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC). “I am excited to showcase these singers in front of the community while raising funds for MPAC.”
Competitors have until Oct. 11 to submit a performance audition video to the Mash Up contest website, accessible through MPAC’s website, TownSquareBuzz.com or NissanOfMcKinney.com. Contestants may enter as a solo performer or group performer.
Starting Oct. 12, voters can select their favorite acts online, and the finalists will perform on Nov. 3.
The public is invited to attend a series of Mash Up performances on Saturday, Nov. 3. Semi-finalists will perform in the afternoon, and the audience will select the Top 20 to advance to the finale that evening. Finale winners, selected by a panel of three judges, will open for Steel Magnolia concert on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 8 p.m.
Steel Magnolia is the country duo Meghan Linsey and Joshua Scott Jones. The pair has received critical acclaim for their unique sound and style. Mash Up Time Line:
- Sept. 4 to Oct. 11: Entry period; audition videos submitted to contest website.
- Oct. 12 to 26: Online voting period; Voters will choose the acts that will be selected to advance to the semi-final performance round. No more than 20 performances from each category will advance.
- Nov. 3: Semi-Final and Final Performances; open to the public.
- Nov. 29: Solo performer winners and group performers winners open for Steel Magnolia in the Courtroom Theater.
Group performance semi-finals will be held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 3 in MPAC’s Courtroom Theater. Solo performance semi-finals will be held 4 p.m. in MPAC’s Courtroom Theater. The top ten finalists from both groups selected by an audience vote will advance to the finals at 8 p.m.
Finalists will perform at 8 p.m. Winners are selected from each category by a panel of judges as well as an audience vote.
This year’s Mash Up is presented by MPAC, TownSquareBuzz and Nissan of McKinney.
