ALLEN (Sept. 11, 2015) — Allen jumped on McKinney Boyd early and never let up Friday, topping the Broncos 45-15 in the District 6-6A opener for both teams. The Eagles (3-0, 1-0) were led by senior quarterback Seth Green, who tallied 331 yards of total offense – 222 through the air – and accounted for two touchdowns.

Allen took the opening kickoff and marched 76 yards in nine plays for a 7-0 lead, with Kirby Bennett scoring from 4 yards out. On Boyd’s ensuing first play from scrimmage, quarterback Grant Restmeyer’s pass was intercepted by Misi Tupou and taken to the house, 20 yards for a touchdown. Allen went on to build a 21-3 first-quarter lead.

“It obviously didn’t start well for us,” Boyd coach Don Drake said. “The first possession you throw an interception returned for a touchdown. Now you’re down 14 points and you only snapped it one time. That’s obviously not how we would have scripted the beginning of that game. The momentum was captured very, very early by them. They’re a great football team. There's a reason they are who they are, and what they’ve been able to accomplish. Stuff like that can’t happen if you expect to be in the ballgame.”

The Broncos had trouble corralling Green most of the night. “He’s very athletic,” Drake said. “They did a very good job of scheming some run stuff for him to where he could kind of get in a groove and build some confidence early, which I thought was pretty key. I know he’s played some snaps, he played quite a few last week. But tonight was obviously the most snaps he’s played all year.”

Things turned much worse for Boyd in the second quarter when Broncos safety Landon Livingston went down with what appeared to be serious leg injury after a Boyd field goal attempt was blocked. As Allen’s Anthony Taylor returned the loose ball back up-field, Livingston was blocked and stayed down.

“From up here [in the press box],” said MISD coach and Boyd statistician Alan Hale, “I saw a convoy of guys returning it, I saw a legal block, and then our guy was on the ground and below the leg it wasn’t moving anymore. The kid was in obvious pain.”

Play was stopped for almost 20 minutes as Livingston was tended to and carted off the field to an ambulance. No word yet on his condition.

When play resumed, Green and the Eagles picked up where they left off, with Green connecting with Lionell McConnell for 68 yards down to Boyd’s 17-yard-line. Seven plays later, a Green-to-Tevyn Stevenson 10-yard scoring toss pushed Allen’s lead to 35-3.

Boyd’s Kaeden Markham, who rushed for a game-high 139 yards, then capped a Broncos 75-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to draw Boyd to within 35-9, seconds before halftime.

Restmeyer finished with 143 yards passing, completing 12 of 26 attempts. Brandon Bowling led Boyd receivers with three catches for 54 yards and Stephen Driskell nabbed four passes for 45.

Drake said Boyd (1-2, 0-1) will bounce back as they’ve done in previous years. “We’ve been here before, right? That was my message to [the team]. … This team’s been in the playoffs the last five years in a row. We’ve been in this situation before. We’ll go back to work on Monday and we’ll keep competing and we’ll keep working. We’re going to be fine. I’m not worried about that at all. This is a great group of kids and they’re focused and committed and they’ll continue to work.”
