WASHINGTON (June 16, 2014) — The C-Span Education Foundation has named Randy Bilyeu, a social studies teacher at McKinney Boyd High School in McKinney, Texas, as one of three recipients of C-Span’s 2014 Teacher Fellowship Program. This highly selective national program is offered to teachers who demonstrate creative use of C-Span programming in their teaching.
Fellows were selected from a nationwide pool of applicants by a panel of C-Span representatives and evaluated based on their innovative use of C-Span programming, dedication to learning new technologies and commitment to professional development. Applicants are required to demonstrate thorough knowledge of the network’s philosophy and programming. Each Fellow receives an award valued at $7,000 that includes housing and travel expenses, and access to resources from the extensive C-Span Archives.
This summer, the Fellows will spend one month at C-Span’s offices in Washington, DC, to collaborate with the network to develop resources for educators who are members of C-Span Classroom. C-Span Classroom engages teachers and students in a variety of educational programs as part of the network’s overall coverage of public affairs.
“During the application process, Randy demonstrated numerous innovative ways in which he uses C-Span’s resources to create dynamic lessons in order to help his students understand how our government works,” said Craig McAndrew, C-Span Manager of Education Relations at C-Span. “We look forward to working closely with Randy this summer in order to develop additional quality resources that help other teachers bring their lessons to life.”
