After two full weeks off for the Christmas and New Year's break, some students in Collin County will get an extra day next week, thanks to a staff development or teacher work day.

The McKinney Independent School District has a "Student Holiday / Staff Development" day scheduled for Monday, Jan. 7. Students report back to school on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

School districts in Allen, Anna, Princeton and Plano also return on Jan. 8.

Schools in the following Collin County school districts will return on Jan. 7: Farmersville, Frisco, Lovejoy, Melissa, Nevada, Prosper and Wylie.

For a couple of area districts, however, school is back in session on Thursday. Blue Ridge, located in northeast Collin County, and St. Paul, which borders Wylie, are open for school on Jan. 3. Both of those districts started their holiday breaks on Dec. 20.

As for the private schools, McKinney Christian Academy returns on Jan. 7 and Faith Christian Academy returns Jan. 3. Students at Faith have been out of school for break since Dec. 17.
