McKINNEY — McKinney ISD will host a two-day ZAPS ACT and SAT test-preparation seminars on July 29-30 at McKinney North High School. These seminars offer an opportunity for students to learn tips, strategies and skills aimed at higher achievement on the ACT and SAT exams.

The seminars are fast-paced and designed primarily for juniors and seniors, but all interested MISD high school students are welcome to register.

Each seminar will be held at McKinney North High School, Room G-119. The ACT seminar will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The SAT seminar will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Registration is required, and the price for each seminar is $79. There is a 60-student maximum capacity for each seminar.

ZAPS: “With a top score of 36 and the national average now at 21, a score increase of even 1 or 2 points on the ACT is a significant advantage. Students who complete a ZAPS ACT-prep seminar – and practice our tips and strategies at home – typically raise their ACT scores by 2 to 4 points.”

ZAPS: “With a top score of 2400 and the national average at 1500, a score increase of even 50 points on the SAT is a significant advantage. Students who complete the ZAPS SAT-prep seminar – and practice the tips and strategies at home – typically raise their SAT scores by 50 to 150 points.”

During the six-hour ACT-prep seminar, students will:

  • Learn tips for improvement in all four subtests
  • Practice strategies to eliminate wrong answer choices
  • Take pre- and post-practice tests in each subtest and analyze the results
  • Prepare to write a well-organized, persuasive essay
  • Reduce test anxiety and gain confidence
  • Receive a comprehensive Study Guide and 24 practice-test workouts

During the six-hour SAT-prep seminar, students will:

  • Learn tips for improvement in all subtests
  • Practice strategies to eliminate wrong answer choices
  • Prepare to write a well-organized, persuasive essay
  • Take pre- and post-practice tests in each subtest and analyze the results
  • Reduce test anxiety and gain confidence
  • Receive a comprehensive Study Guide and 18 practice-test workouts
