The McKinney School District celebrated its best and brightest teachers of the year during an awards ceremony in early April.
The 2012 Teachers of the Year are as follows:
- David Bill, a first-grade teacher at Finch Elementary School, was named Elementary Teacher of the Year.
“I am transforming my students’ futures by providing them opportunities that are not available to them outside of school," Bill says. "My classroom wiki is full of creative, engaging lessons that are studentcentered. My students and I are 21st century learners.”
- Melody Nicholson, a 12th-grade economics teacher at McKinney High School, was named Secondary Teacher of the Year.
“All students have the capacity to learn regardless of race, ethnicity, socio-economic and/or religious background," she says. "No matter what type of environment the students come from, each child has the ability to learn and grow. Students are not characterized as ‘unteachable,’ ‘unreachable’ or ‘disinterested’ (my preferred challenge) in my classroom.”
