A group of area high schoolers spent much of the past six weeks at the hospital – on purpose.
Through Medical Center of McKinney's junior volunteer program, the students – on their summer break – were the eyes and ears for several departments four hours a day, three days a week. Dull moments were few and far between.
"There was no standing around," said Patrick Feng, soon to be a senior at Allen High School. "When I worked in the [emergency room], I was sweating the entire time, running everywhere. It was non-stop."
Feng and eight other junior volunteers – four from McKinney, two from Plano, one from Frisco and one from Lovejoy – learned their roles from the MCM Auxiliary, a group of mostly senior volunteers who raise money and do the work year-round.
