As part of the ongoing TxDOT project to widen U.S. 75 (Central Expressway) from the Sam Rayburn Tollway (State Highway 121) to White Avenue in McKinney, TxDOT has informed the City of the following closure:
TxDOT to close Virginia Parkway under U.S. 75 overnight for bridge demolition
Weather permitting, TxDOT will close Virginia Parkway underneath U.S. 75 on Thursday, Sept. 18 and Friday, Sept. 19 to demolish the existing northbound main lane bridge. Both closures are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. and be done by 6 a.m. the following day. The closure will only affect that portion of Virginia Parkway directly underneath U.S. 75. The northbound and southbound main lanes and frontage roads are all expected to remain open throughout both nights. Detour signs will be posted directing motorists around the closure by either White Avenue or Park View Avenue.
This work is being done at night to minimize the impact to area residents. However, both nights motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
As a reminder, this TxDOT construction project to widen U.S. 75 from the Sam Rayburn Tollway to White Avenue in McKinney to four main lanes in each direction and three frontage road lanes in each direction will provide much needed extra capacity through McKinney. The project is anticipated to be complete in January 2016.
Please be safe when traveling through the work zone and always observe traffic warning signs.
