Weather permitting, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will be performing two traffic switches and converting the U.S. 75 (Central Expressway) southbound frontage road to one-way operation over the weekend. TxDOT announced Friday that it has pushed this weekend’s traffic switch one day due to potential for rain on Saturday.
This will occur on Sunday, Nov. 23 and Monday, Nov. 24 and affect U.S. 75 (Central Expressway) between Bloomdale Road and Telephone Road in McKinney and Melissa.
- Friday, Nov. 21 at 7 a.m. – The U.S. 75 southbound frontage road between Telephone Road and FM 543 will become one-way southbound permanently.
- Sunday, Nov. 23; 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. – U.S. 75 southbound will be shifted to the west onto the new southbound mainlane pavement between Bloomdale Road and Telephone Road for approximately the next seven months. During the traffic switch, U.S. 75 southbound will have one lane closed and one lane open. The open lane will be exited to the southbound frontage road from Davis Road to south of Bloomdale Road where traffic will re-enter the U.S. 75 southbound mainlanes.
The Bloomdale Road bridge will also be closed on this day and Bloomdale traffic will use Redbud Boulevard, Wilmeth Road and Community Avenue to get from one side of Bloomdale to the other.
The southbound State Highway 121 (Sam Rayburn Tollway) entrance ramp to U.S. 75 southbound will be closed for the day and traffic will be routed to southbound State Highway 5 and west on U.S. 380 back to U.S. 75.
- Monday, Nov. 24, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday – U.S. 75 northbound will be shifted to the west onto the new southbound mainlane pavement for approximately the next seven months. U.S. 75 northbound will have one lane closed and one lane open between Bloomdale Road and Telephone Road. The open lane will exit at the northbound Bloomdale exit ramp and routed onto the northbound frontage road then re-enter U.S. 75 northbound at the next entrance. The closed lane will re-open once barrier is set and two lanes will be open throughout the project northbound as before the switch.
- Monday, Nov. 24 at 9 p.m. – New FM 543 pavement will be open to crossing traffic once mainlane traffic is shifted and on the new overpass. The U.S. 75 northbound frontage road will be opened approximately six weeks later. U.S. 75 southbound will gain three exits; FM 543, Bloomdale Road and Wilmeth Road and an entrance between FM 543 and Bloomdale Road. U.S. 75 northbound will lose the entrance ramp south of Bloomdale and the Telephone Road exit. U.S. 75 northbound traffic wanting to access FM 543 will have a detour to exit Bloomdale to be routed to FM 543 until the northbound frontage road is opened in six weeks.
DETOUR: Detours will be marked and local law enforcement will be present on Saturday, Sunday and Monday to assist with traffic control.
Backups are expected and motorists are encouraged to consider alternate routes.
