Space Week and Around the World Camps Beginning Soon

MCKINNEY, Texas — Summer camp is in full swing at Craig Ranch Fitness & Spa’s Youth Center with unique programming open to members and non-members.

Each week, campers will explore themes such as Shark Week, Camp Fire and The Wild through a diverse schedule of indoor and outdoor activities.

The experience is energizing and well-rounded, engaging campers of all interests, said Youth Center Manager Apple Jackson. Jackson said her counselors plan games and activities based on what children are interested in, changing things up week to week to keep the curriculum fresh all summer.

"We love the children and treat them like they’re our own…” Jackson said. “I like to have something special every week just to keep them excited and keep them engaged. Our kids are already excited about next week because they know we’ll do something they want to do.”

Camp activities focus on a wide array of subjects, including science, culinary, arts and crafts, team building and water games. Over camp's first few weeks, campers have made “magic milk,” dying milk with edible tie-dye, and performed a hand-washing experiment with soap and glitter, Jackson said. They’ve made their own slushies, parfaits and sundaes. They’ve worked together during water balloon challenges, Nerf gun fights and capture the flag competitions. During a frosty North Pole-themed week, campers took on an ice bucket challenge and crafted homemade ice cream.

When kids come to camp, staff know them by name and build relationships with their families, Jackson said. She said they always want to treat guests as more than customers.

"We make them feel special when they walk in the door,” Jackson said.

The remaining weeks’ themes include:

  • June 29-July 3: Tie Dye

  • July 6-10: Shark Week

  • July 13-17: Camp Fire

  • July 20-24: The Wild

  • July 27-31: Space Week

  • Aug. 3-7: Around the World

All sessions are open to children ages 5-12, with half-day Pee Wee camps open to ages 2-4. The camps are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or morning and afternoon half days from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

Campers are also welcome to take Craig Ranch Fitness swim lessons while attending camp. Counselors will walk kids to the pool when their lessons begin and back to the Youth Center when it's time to return to camp.

As the activities keep campers engaged, ongoing health and sanitation measures keep them safe. All campers have their temperature checked at the door. Play areas are sanitized and both counselors and campers frequently wash their hands. Beyond this, all games and activities are designed with social distancing in mind, spacing kids out with their own materials.

Individual full days are $55 for members and $65 for non-members and individual half days are $30 for members and $35 for non-members. A week of full days is $220 for members and $260 for non-members and a week of half days is $120 for members and $135 for non-members. There is a one-time $25 registration fee for all camps. For parents who work late, extended care from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 5:30 p.m. is also available for $10 a session.

There are no registration deadlines, though non-member families should either call ahead or arrive early to fill out a registration and contact form. If campers wear their free Craig Ranch t-shirt on a Monday or Friday of camp, they’ll get 10% off their next camp purchase.
