The McKinney-Based Hospital Is Combining Robotic Technology & Industry-Leading Knee Implants
McKINNEY, TEXAS – Total joint replacement is one of the most commonly performed, elective surgical procedures in the United States.1Methodist McKinney Hospital is excited to announce ROSA Knee, which offers improved joint alignment for better function and a better quality of life.
“Robotic surgery offers many benefits to patients,” said Dr. Charles Toulson, orthopedic surgeon and nationally recognized expert in robotic knee replacement surgery. “I enjoy seeing my patients recover faster and get back to activities that they were unable to do when they were suffering from knee pain.”
Methodist McKinney Hospital has been doing robotic knee replacements since 2013 and recently purchased the latest technology offered by Zimmer Biomet ROSA® Knee System, which brings together robotic technology with industry-leading knee implants to help surgeons personalize surgical procedures for their patients. ROSA Knee is a robotically-assisted surgical system designed to help perform total knee replacement surgery and was approved by the FDA earlier this year. It includes features to assist with bone resections and assessing the state of soft tissues in order to facilitate implant positioning intraoperatively. Data provided by ROSA Knee assists with complex decision-making and enables surgeons to use computer and software technology to control and move surgical instruments, allowing for greater precision and flexibility during procedures.
“For everyone involved – surgeons, medical staff and, most importantly, patients – ROSA Knee has the potential to offer a number of key benefits,” said Joe Minissale, president of Methodist McKinney Hospital and companies. “We know the decision to have joint replacement surgery is often a difficult one for patients to make, and we believe these robotically-assisted technologies have the potential to make it an easier one moving forward.”
Whatever the cause of someone’s knee pain and however long ago it happened, a knee injury can affect how well you move. Having innovative technology and quality physicians can help people return to their active lifestyles.
