A lady shouldn't have to compromise health for beauty. I absolutely believe that beauty is from the inside out, and our health directly impacts our appearance. I know when I eat junk, skip my supplements, and become overwhelmed my skin reflects that. I also know that when I look better, I feel better. That means, I want my makeup to work in my favor. I want it to make me feel my best, and NOT do more harm to my skin that is already affected by lifestyle choices. Wouldn't you agree?

Even though the packaging may look sleek and totally irresistible, lots of commercial makeup—even the expensive, luxury brands—is full of ingredients you wouldn’t want near your face. Remember, it’s what’s on the inside that counts!

Here are a few things to check the label for :

  • parabens
  • sulfates
  • phthalates
  • synthetic fragrance
  • formaldehyde
  • silicone
  • aluminum

According to Safecosmetics.org "Some of these key windows of susceptibility occur during prenatal development and puberty, when the body’s cells are dividing rapidly and when complex organs and functions such as brains, breasts and metabolism develop. For anyone who has been pregnant or known someone who was pregnant, this probably comes as no surprise. During pregnancy, women are cautioned to avoid smoking and alcohol, to limit consumption of foods that may contain neurotoxins such as tuna (which can contain mercury), and to get enough of key nutrients. The womb is the first environment, and it turns out that the health of this first environment can impact health for decades to follow.

Many personal care products contain chemicals that disrupt hormones. For instance, parabens, common preservatives in cosmetics, and triclosan, a common active ingredient in antibacterial soaps and hand sanitizers, have been shown to disrupt hormones."

This basically tells us that our babies are most likely to have lasting effects from exposure to toxins while we are pregnant with them, or when they are going through puberty. I know that as a teenager our young girls are curious about makeup, let's set the example. It's time to break up with the toxic makeup!
