The McKinney Council of PTAs invites you to learn more about supporting your child's mental health at a Lunch and Learn Program on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the board room at MISD's Central Office.
Have you observed that an increasing number of children and teens seem to be struggling with managing stress or handling anxiety? Bring your lunch and join us as MISD's Senior Director of Guidance and Counseling Jennifer Akins, M. Ed., LPC, presents "More Sunlight, More Candor, and More Unashamed Conversation.” She will discuss mental health and brain development, positive coping strategies that can be used at any age, and resources for further information and support. We will hold a brief delegate meeting before the program. The meeting and program are open to everyone.
Ms. Akins has served in MISD for 20 years, comprised of 6 years as a teacher, 10 years as a school counselor, and 4 years at the district level. In addition to supporting schools in delivering comprehensive school counseling programs, she has professional interest in the areas of emotional regulation, interpersonal neurobiology, and stress management. Ms. Akins lives in McKinney with her husband and fifth-grade daughter.
Raytheon Alliance for Diverse Abilities (RADA) will be providing cookies from Hugs Café.
