Come and join us in an interactive discussion.
For families navigating the challenges of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) era, it can seem a bit like a play in three acts: a parent, a teacher and a professional — only in this case, all the acts are happening at once and you are probably getting overwhelmed.
How best can we as parents navigate through the current environment, keep our sanity, and help our kids progress? How can we serve in the three roles and develop a daily structure for the unique needs of each child?
Every child is different and every one of them learn differently. Up to 25% of children have some sort of learning challenges and these learning challenges become more apparent and visible during times of Covid-19 and structured home learning format.
We as parents need to adjust and adopt the learning format according to their needs and their learning style.
The event will be led by Sydney Wesson from Brain Balance of Allen and Tracy Walker from Tutor Doctor Allen and Plano.
They will share how development works and how to identify a child’s learning needs. We will also discuss how to identify learning challenges and what tools & tricks we can use to create the best learning environment at home in any environment.
Sydney Wesson graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology and a Biology minor. While working on her undergraduate degree, Sydney found her passion for working with children through The Children’s Home of Lubbock.
Sydney was a direct care provider for a wide age range of children, as well as a wide range of needs. While working at The Children’s Home of Lubbock, Sydney began her next step in her education at St. Catherine’s University.
Shortly after beginning the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program, Sydney relocated to McKinney, TX and began her career
with Brain Balance of Allen.
While working on her second degree she completed training with a handwriting specialist with a focus on promoting proper techniques and increasing overall fine motor control.
Sydney has been a team member with Brain Balance for over 2 years and has been instrumental in creating changes with over 200
families through a mindset that our children are our future and making changes within them ensures we make positive changes for our communities’ future.
Tracy Walker is the owner of Tutor Doctor Allen and Plano, which provides virtual and in-home tutoring for students of all ages, grade levels and subjects.
Prior to Tutor Doctor, she spent over 20 years working in marketing and advertising for a Fortune 500 company. While she enjoyed this career, she realized her lifelong passion was to drive change in the community.
She launched Tutor Doctor Allen and Plano as a result of the positive experiences her family received while working with in-home tutors. She understands the rewarding impact left on the student and family when academic hurdles are achieved, especially in
the comfort of the client’s own home.
The passion she has to drive success for her own children is the same passion she brings to the community.
Tracy is married and has two sons in Allen ISD, Osiah (7th grade) and Kason (3rd grade)
