Join in the McKinney Home for the Holidays fun with Mondo Duke on the E. Louisiana outdoor stage - right outside our door! (Inclement weather plan, our Filtered Stage right inside)
Mondo Duke came together when all four of the founding members met in a jazz combo at Collin College. We, as a collective, quickly realized the potential for what we had stumbled upon. After a few rehearsals outside of school, we decided it was time to get out and share our love for jazz music with the community. Mondo Duke Jazz lab band currently consists of a Vibraphone (Chris Johanson), guitar (Jon Slaughter), Will Murdock (drums), and Cody Cantrell (Bass).
Jon began his musical journey at age eight because he wanted to be just like his older brother who had already been playing for some time before him. Rhythm was in Will’s blood as he began beating on a toy drum in kindergarten before his parents bought him the real thing in first grade. Chris started playing vibraphone when he was twelve because of the unique sound of the instrument and his natural musical impulses towards the marriage of rhythm and melody. Cody, the oldest member of the group, started playing guitar when he was twelve but after being diagnosed with a rare movement disorder in his hand at twenty-four, he then switched and learned left-handed bass at the age of twenty-seven. Together, these four young men make up Mondo Duke.
