Melissa ISD has earned a “superior achievement” rating under state fiscal accountability guidelines. The “superior” rating is the state’s highest designation. The complete financial management report will be presented at a public hearing at the regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Trustees on Dec.17, 2012. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Melissa ISD Home Office and parents and taxpayers will be afforded the opportunity to comment on the report during the public communication portion of the agenda.

The Schools FIRST (Fiscal Integrity Rating System of Texas) measure was developed by the Texas Education Agency in response to Senate Bill 875 adopted by the Texas Legislature in 1999. The primary goal of Schools FIRST is to achieve quality performance in the management of school districts’ financial resources. The financial accountability rating of a school district is based on its overall performance on certain financial measurements, ratios, and other indicators established by the commissioner of education.
