McKinney Boyd High School Band students are an exceptional group of musicians both in and out of uniform, as evidenced by their recent community service efforts.
This talented group of young people can be found giving tremendous effort in the classroom, on the marching field and within their own community. For example, band members participated in an August charity drive to benefit The Samaritan Inn.
Each member of the band was asked to donate either high-efficiency laundry detergent or all-purpose cleaner for The Samaritan Inn, Collin County's largest homeless assistance program, which features comprehensive services that help willing people gain dignity and independence.
“The response was amazing!" said Eric Brinkman, McKinney Boyd Band President. "Nearly 250 items were collected. It was hard to put that many donations into one car!”
The students said they were happy to support the community by sharing their blessings because "we want to give back to the community because so many people in McKinney give to the MBHS Band program,” noted Brena Lackey, Band Vice President.
Although the band's busy marching season is in full swing, the recent charity drive to benefit The Samaritan Inn isn't the end of the band’s community service efforts.
The McKinney Boyd High School Band plans to continue its charitable giving by holding monthly benefit drives throughout the 2012-2013 school year.
