McKINNEY, Texas (Nov. 7, 2018) – Nearly 1,500 chefs will meet at The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama this November for the culinary battle of their lives — and a shot at more than $350,000 in cash and prizes, the biggest payout in Food Sport history. Among the field of competitors for the 7th Annual World Food Championships (WFC) will be Port Aransas winner, Robert Richards, who will be representing “Team Texas” at the Ultimate Food Fight.

“Teams from more than 40 states and 15 countries will enter one of our ten competition categories to earn their way to a title and a huge TV opportunity,” said Mike McCloud, the CEO and official Commissioner of the event. “The competition will be more intense than ever this year, and ten incredible chefs or home cooks are going to walk away with $10,000 cash!”

Competitors will cook food on-site during the timed events that include preparation speed, specialty recipes, presentation and the ultimate taste test for E.A.T™ certified Food Sport judges. The categories include Bacon, Barbecue, Burger, Chef, Chicken, Chili, Dessert, Sandwich, Seafood and Steak. Competitor, Chef Rob Richards from McKinney, TX, will be competing in the Sandwich Category.

With more than 30 years in the culinary profession, Richards has cooked his way through the North East, the Carolinas, and the great state of Texas- in both restaurants and hotels. Rob started his career working as dishwasher and prep cook before moving to the front of the house. During that time, Rob longed for the back of the house. His love affair with how to cook and make food for people was his driving force behind pursuing culinary arts school. So, he packed his bags and moved to Vermont where he did his studies at New England Culinary Institute.

“They say it’s the super bowl of culinary competition,” said Richards. “Today was a blast! I learned a lot.  Hopefully out of the 40 chefs competing today I’ve made it to the top 10.”

McCloud also noted that cooking is not the only opportunity for participation at WFC. Those interested in volunteering or learning how to become an E.A.T.™ certified Food Sport judge can learn more at www.worldfoodchampionships.com.

There will be almost 30,000 foodies who visit Orange Beach for the November 7-11 event.
