Clothe a Child is currently planning the 2019 Back to School Rally, to benefit the children of McKinney ISD. The event will take place on Saturday, August 10 (10 am – 2pm) at Webb Elementary in McKinney. This event is a volunteer-led project to provide free back to school haircuts and hairstyles, school supplies, and hygiene items to MISD students in need. Our mission is to help build confidence and positive attitudes by providing back- to-school essentials to the economically disadvantaged youth of MISD.
This rally has grown over the years through the efforts of the local community who desire to aid those in the community which they live. This event serves several hundred people, annually. Since inception this event have raised over $20,000 dollars in financial contributions as well as several thousand dollars in goods and services contributions. Donations to this event are completely directed to address the needs of children in our local community.
As of the 2017-18 school year McKinney had an elementary school student population of 11,075 students. 4,014 (36%) of those students were economically disadvantaged, meaning they qualified for free or reduced-price lunch or received other public assistance. Wanda Johnson, a Community Liaison, who works with MISD middle school students shared a story about one student who had received aid through this program since elementary school. This student was homeless and through her own hard work and the kindness of donations, recently graduated high school and started college last Fall. We hope to have many more stories like this as a result of our program.
