One of the best things a person can do is volunteering their time for a worthy group or cause. Volunteer McKinney has the following opportunities available:
Preschool Story Time. The McKinney Public Library offers preschoolers a story time program to learn and explore the library as a fun place to enjoy books. Volunteers can help library staff with handing out and collecting tickets and other duties as assigned. The Roy and Helen Hall Library program is offered Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:15 to 11:30. The John and Judy Gay Library program is held Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:15 to 11:30. If you would enjoy helping children learn about reading and the library, you can find contact information on the Volunteer McKinney web site. Click on “McKinney Public Library Children’s Programs” under Updated Listings.
Spanish/English Translators and Office Assistance. Children and Community Health Center of McKinney is seeking volunteers to help with communication between patients and the medical staff as well as office staff. Translators must be able to communicate fluently in both Spanish and English, but no medical experience is necessary as medical Spanish books are used for reference. CCHC’s greatest need is for translators during the day-time and on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Office volunteers are also needed, especially those with Microsoft skills. If you would like to help insure that children get the healthcare they deserve, use Keywords, “Children and Community” on the Volunteer McKinney web site.
SPCA Basics. Volunteers with the Animal Ambassadors program at SPCA of Texas assist staff members with different tasks at the shelter so that animals waiting for their forever homes receive exceptional care. Shifts are available for 2 hours, seven days a week. Once a 20 hour commitment has been met, volunteers may then attend training for direct animal interaction. For more information about this program, look for “Animal Ambassadors” under Updated Listings on the Volunteer McKinney web site.
