Volunteer McKinney works side-by-side with local nonprofits and groups by providing volunteer recruitment, leadership events, volunteer management training and consulting.
Part of their mission statement says: "By working together, the benefit to this community is multiplied. We all share a common goal and that is to make McKinney the best it can be."
Here are a few new opportunities:
• Ice Cream Lovers. Volunteer opportunities are available at the 18th annual Killis Melton Ice Cream Crank Off on Saturday, June 8 at Chestnut Square Historic Village. Activities include homemade ice cream competition and tastings along with festivities for the entire family. Volunteers can assist at the ice cream stations, hand out tasting cups, sell water, give directions and coordinate supplies. Have fun and help others enjoy the event.
• Finding a Cure. The mission of the American Diabetes Association is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. One way you can help in the fight against this deadly disease is to participate in the Saturday, Aug. 3 Tour de Cure to be held at Texas Motor Speedway. There is a route for riders of all levels – it is a ride, not a race. Another activity benefiting the American Diabetes Association is School Walk for Diabetes. This is a school fundraising program that promotes healthy living, school spirit, and community.
Additional information on any of these opportunities can be found on the Volunteer McKinney web site. Click on Get Connected, then look in the right hand column under Agency Activity for the event you’re seeking.
