Volunteer McKinney works side-by-side with local nonprofits and groups by providing volunteer recruitment, leadership events, volunteer management training and consulting.
Part of their mission statement says: "By working together, the benefit to this community is multiplied. We all share a common goal and that is to make McKinney the best it can be."
Here are a few new opportunities:
• Triumph Over Pain (TOP). The TOP 2013 5K/10K is scheduled for the morning of May 4. Volunteers are needed to help with set up/tear down, water stations along the route, selling raffle ticket, and lots of volunteers are needed to cheer on the runners. Look for “TOP 5K/10K” on the Volunteer McKinney web site under “New Listings.
• Hospice Team Volunteers. The hospice team at American Hospice is seeking compassionate people who are willing to provide comfort and care for terminally ill patients and their loved ones. Volunteers are a vital part of this team and can make a difference by sharing stories, lending an ear, or by working in the office. If you are interested in becoming a part of the American Hospice family, use Keywords, “American Hospice” on the VMC web site.
• The Animal Ambassadors program at SPCA of McKinney trains volunteers to help staff members provide exceptional care to animals while they wait for their “forever homes.” Volunteers must be 18 years old or volunteer with a parent or guardian if 12-17 years old. Time commitment is 20 hours within three months, and each shift is 2 hours. Eventually, volunteers may advance to direct animal interaction after 20 hours of animal handling training. For more information, go the VMC web site and click on “Animal Ambassadors” under Updated Listings.
