Volunteer McKinney works side-by-side with local nonprofits and groups by providing volunteer recruitment, leadership events, volunteer management training and consulting.
Part of their mission statement says: "By working together, the benefit to this community is multiplied. We all share a common goal and that is to make McKinney the best it can be."
Here are a few new opportunities:
• McKinney Youth Theatre strives to provide quality arts education and family entertainment for the youth of our community. Several positions are currently open including box office/concessions for ages 11 and up, choreography and directing assistant for college students or older teens with experience, and grant research and writing, office duties, and other areas that need adults to prepare for classes, workshops and productions. Look under “New Listings” on the Volunteer McKinney website to find additional information for each position.
• Care Calls. Meals on Wheels, an agency that combats isolation and promotes the health, dignity and independence of those 60 years or older, is seeking volunteers to conduct well-check calls once weekly between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Mondays, Thursdays or Fridays. If you can spare a couple of hours a week, look for “Care Call Program.”
• Keeping History Alive. Chestnut Square Historic Village is seeking volunteers to assist customers in Dixie’s Store, an old-time general store. It is open Saturday morning from 8 to noon from late March through the end of October. For additional details, look for “Dixie’s Store Volunteer” on the Volunteer McKinney website. Volunteers are also needed to care for two white miniature goats. Regular feeding, watering and clean-up will keep these goats happy. For contact information, look for “Goat Care Providers” on the web site.
