McKINNEY (March 2, 2015) — When Bradley Sanders, owner of Triumph Roofing and Construction, learned through a networking contact that Habitat for Humanity of South Collin County needed a roofer for its Plano home build at 1113 G Avenue, he immediately went into action – in part to give back to the city in which he attended high school.
He contacted one of his shingle vendors, GAF, the largest roofing manufacturer in North America, to take advantage of its Habitat program available to GAF Certified™ contractors. GAF donated the shingles that Triumph Roofing used to complete the installation on Feb. 6, 2015. As Triumph Roofing is a certified GAF contractor, GAF offers a full lifetime warranty (50 years) guarantee on the roof installation.
“With GAF, I can provide upgraded warranties not available to other roofing companies, such as the lifetime warranty, because of my expertise in the industry,” says Bradley. “I also offer a 10-year labor warranty, even though the industry standard is only two years.”
Says Pete Young, the Habitat volunteer who told Bradley of the roofing opportunity, “We’re always looking for quality contractors to participate in home builds. When Bradley told me he was interested, I put him in touch with James Donaldson, Habitat’s director of construction. Bradley’s compassionate and professional. I knew he’d be a winner for us.”
Donaldson agrees, saying Brad was fantastic. “When I work with a new contractor, I never know how hard it’s going to be to work with them. Sometimes it takes a lot of phone calls to get the work finished. With Brad, it took me just one phone call. He contacted GAF and did all the necessary paperwork. Three days later his team was at work and we had our roof.”
Staying on schedule in any home build is critical, but when your project is a youth build – 300 area youth currently participate in Habitat’s Extreme Build for Youth program, 40 of whom show up each Saturday to hammer and paint and caulk – it’s imperative, adds Donaldson. “Brad made my life so easy. To get my roof done in three days so that the kids could work that weekend was huge. Brad’s team didn’t have any problem adjusting to a volunteer build, and they removed the extra materials and cleaned the site beautifully, which would have taken us a lot of volunteer hours if I’d had to arrange that. I wish all of my contractors were so proactive and professional.”
This project, in the historical Douglass community of old Plano, should be complete in late Spring. Adds Donaldson, “We’ve been revitalizing this area for the past 15 years. In May, we will sell the family the home at cost with a no-interest mortgage.”
Brad gets immense satisfaction from that. “I give a percentage of profits to local community charities,” he says, “but I love Habitat because it’s such a great fit. I can step in and help where Habitat volunteers can’t because of OSHA regulations. The roof is the most important part of the home, as it protects everything else, so it feels great knowing we’re giving the Plano family one done right.”
