“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort
and convenience, but where he stands at a time of challenge and controversy.”
— Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
This quote so aptly describes a man that has overcome a huge battle that was levied against him.
In 2010, honored hero David Nesbit completed a marathon just two months before he was to begin chemotherapy to control chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). At that time, some might have wondered why would anyone want to run 26.2 miles? Crazy, right? Currently, there is not a cure for CLL, we believe someday there will be one.
Fast forward to 2016, it marks a big anniversary year for David Nesbit. Five years ago he walked into a chemo room for the first time. Six months later he walked out and has never returned ... with hopes to NEVER go back. According to his doctor, that hope could very well be a reality. In celebration of this blessing, we are trying to form a team of awesome people to train and fundraise together and ultimately raise $100,000 in one year. In doing so, we will then get a research grant to help find a cure in our Team's name, TEAM 5 ALIVE.
Stories like this are why I continue to be a part of this organization. This year I will take on a brand new challenge. I will train to cycle 100 miles, all while raising money for LLS. This will be my 10th Team in Training event and I have a personal goal of raising $10,000 for this season. This will help TEAM 5 ALIVE also make the goal of $100,000. I would like to personally thank each and every person that has donated to this cause. You are truly making a difference, one dollar at a time.
