Blue skies and a mild breeze served as the perfect setting for Smiles Charity’s tenth annual Memorial Day Weekend concert. The headlining act was Andy Grammer who put on an exciting show. Mr. Grammer was so enamored by the crowd that at one point he left the stage and sang down in the crowd. Thousands gathered to see his performance and make their donation towards homes for wounded soldiers. Net proceeds from the concert event including cash and credit donations from the crowd will go directly towards remodeling a home for a disabled veteran later this year.
Appearing on stage with Andy Grammer were local favorite Maylee Thomas Band and Gyth Ridgon, an upcoming country star from Nashville. Families attending the concert event also enjoyed a flyover by WWII era planes; a kids’ area with bounce houses, games, and activities; local food and drink vendors; and a spectacular fireworks display.
These are just a few sponsors that made this years concert possible: Crest Cars, Traxxas, KLAK 97.5, Centurion America, Buchanan Orthodontics, Lane Construction Services, and Simpson Strong-Tie. For the full list of sponsors please visit www.smilescharity.org. Their support allowed Smiles Charity to organize one of the most successful events in its ten-year history.
Net proceeds from this year’s event will help remodel a home to be handicap accessible for SSgt Jason Morgan, US Air Force Special Operations Command (Airborne), retired. Please visit www.smilescharity.org for more information about how this patriot not only served his country in combat, but also as a hometown hero upon his return.
About Smiles Charity. Smiles Charity was founded in 2008 to help build homes for local families in need, with current housing projects for wounded veterans. The results are remarkable: Ten homes have been built, one more is within weeks of its groundbreaking and the 12th home, which is a remodel of our veterans existing home to make it handicap accessible, is in the planning stages. Its mission is to bring the community together to change the world one home, one family at a time.
