McKINNEY, Texas – For the second year in a row, Historic Downtown McKinney will serve as a drop-off location for WFAA, Channel 8 Santa's Helpers Toy Drive from 5—8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8 on Kentucky Street next to the McKinney Performing Arts Center. Santa's Helpers collects new, unwrapped toys for more than 50,000 needy children age infant through teen in each of the four Dallas-Fort Worth counties: Dallas, Tarrant, Collin and Denton. McKinney is the designated Collin County drop-off, and approved community service organizations, including the Salvation Army of McKinney, the Assistance Center of Collin County and Frisco Family Services, will distribute toys collected in McKinney to recipients in Collin County. Residents, schools, churches, service organizations and businesses are encouraged to collect toys and decorate their vehicles to come through the drive-thru line from 5—8:30 p.m. Dec. 8. Media personalities will be on hand and live broadcasts will be shown on WFAA, Channel 8 during the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts with a recap of the event at 10 p.m. “The response and generosity from our citizens and surrounding communities last year was remarkable and we look forward to making Christmas brighter for the children in our county once again,” said Mayor Brian Loughmiller. “The joy that comes from giving back and placing a smile on someone else’s face connects us all and makes our growing city feel connected.” The 2016 Santa's Helpers campaign is sponsored by Chick-fil-A, Don Davis Auto Group, Milestone Electric and Tom Thumb.
