To celebrate its fifth year, North Texas Giving Day 2013 aims to exceed last year’s record-breaking 37,800 donations totaling $14.4 million. The nearly all-day event will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19. That day, donations of $25 or more can be made 7 a.m. to midnight to more than 1,000 certified nonprofits listed on donorbridgetx.org. Those donations will be amplified by more than $1.5 million dollars in bonus funds and prizes.

Twenty-five nonprofits on the list are based in McKinney, and 135 nonprofits are from Collin County.

Launched in 2009 by Communities Foundation of Texas with ongoing support from Center for Nonprofit Management and The Dallas Foundation, DonorBridge is the most comprehensive and free public resource for connecting North Texas nonprofits and supporters. Bonus funds and prizes have been contributed by Bank of America, Katherine C. Carmody Trust Fund, Communities Foundation of Texas, Community Foundation of North Texas, The Dallas Foundation, Dallas Women’s Foundation, Hunt Consolidated’s Hunt Cares Campaign, Meadows Foundation, Rees-Jones Foundation, Sid Richardson Foundation, Harold Simmons Foundation and an anonymous donor. WFAA Channel 8, The Dallas Morning News, CBS Radio and My Sweet Charity are the 2013 North Texas Giving Day media sponsors. DART is the transportation sponsor.

Anyone can support North Texas Giving Day online from 7 a.m. to midnight at donorbridgetx.org. Or, anyone can join us in person at our several “donation station” events throughout the day:

  • 7 a.m. to midnight, Communities Foundation of Texas Donation Station at 5500 Caruth Haven Lane in Dallas at the intersection of I-75
  • 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., DART Donation Stations listed here will offer free donuts to donors
  • 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Communities Foundation of Texas Donation Station includes complimentary showcase performances by several nonprofits. Donors may purchase lunch from local food trucks. A schedule of performers and confirmed food trucks will be updated here.
  • 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., “Giving Day Home Stretch” party with complimentary champagne toast and showcase performances to usher in late-night donations will be updated here.

Prizes that will be awarded are listed below. Enhancing the excitement of the day, donations are tracked and displayed in real-time on the leaderboard found at the top of DonorBridge’s home page at donorbridgetx.org.

  • Top 3 nonprofits with an operating budget of under $1 million: 1st – $5,000, 2nd – $2,500 and 3rd - $1,000
  • Top 3 nonprofits with an operating budget of over $1 million: 1st – $5,000, 2nd – $2,500 and 3rd – $1,000

LARGEST INCREASE IN NUMBER OF UNIQUE DONORS OVER LAST YEAR (repeat participants only)

  • Best integrated marketing campaign for the North Texas Giving Day event (potentially integrating video, special events, social media and any other communication vehicles) as judged by local media: $5,000

BEST BUSINESS/NONPROFIT PARTNERSHIP

  • Nonprofit with the best partnership with a business to raise money during North Texas Giving Day as judged by local business media and other business experts: $2,500

RANDOM PRIZES

  • 1,929th DONATION: $10,000 (marking the year The Dallas Foundation was founded)
  • 2,013th DONATION: $10,000
  • 25th, 250th, 2,500th and 25,000th DONATION: $2,500. Marking 25th anniversary of Harold Simmons Foundation
  • GOLDEN TICKETS: Seventeen $1,000 prizes awarded hourly. Winners will be drawn randomly from the pool of nonprofits that received donations during that hour
  • SURPRISE GRANTS: $15,000 in multiple, additional, random prizes to be awarded at times to be announced during the day

TARRANT COUNTY CHALLENGE: $10,000. Tarrant County-based nonprofits with 32 or more gifts will be entered in a random drawing in celebration of the Community Foundation of North Texas’ 32 years.
