McKINNEY (Jan. 28, 2016) — North Collin County Habitat for Humanity (NCC Habitat) has been awarded $42,500 from Thrivent Financial to support the Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity program, an ongoing multi-year, multi-million dollar partnership between Habitat for Humanity International and Thrivent Financial, which helps create safe, decent, affordable housing across the globe.
Locally, the program will fund the construction of a home for the de la Torre Family in McKinney. The de la Torre family of four is anxiously awaiting their home and look forward to volunteering their time toward its construction. Volunteers, as well as Thrivent Members, will be needed once construction begins, which is scheduled for Saturday May 14.
“It is inspiring to work alongside Habitat families, Thrivent members and others to build and repair homes,” said Jason Jupiterwala, a financial representative with Thrivent Financial and NCC Habitat Board member. “Sharing our time and talents helps us live generously and strengthen our community.”
Thrivent Financial is committing $12 million nationally to the 2016 partnership, which will be used to serve families and mobilize volunteers through three programs: Thrivent Builds Homes, Thrivent Builds Repairs and Thrivent Builds Worldwide.
- Thrivent Builds Homes focuses on improving communities by helping Habitat build homes in partnership with low-income families. In the local area, one Thrivent Builds Homes will be built this year.
- Thrivent Builds Repairs provides for the repair of existing homes in partnership with families who don’t have the resources or ability to make the repairs themselves. The Thrivent Builds Repairs program will complete 1-2 repairs in North Collin County in 2016.
Since the national partnership’s inception in 2005, Thrivent Financial and its members have now committed $226 million and 4.7 million volunteer hours around the world.
“We are extremely grateful to Thrivent Financial and its members for their continued support of Habitat for Humanity,” said Celeste H. Cox. “Because of this generosity, more families will have a safe, affordable place to call home.”
Thrivent Financial remains the largest non-governmental supporter of Habitat for Humanity International. For more information about Thrivent Builds programs, visit Thriventbuilds.com. To learn about local volunteer opportunities, visit NCC-Habitat.com/volunteer.

We put God’s love into action by building homes and communities. We are dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide. We encourage positive relationships throughout the community by advocating for fair housing policies and by providing training to help families improve their shelter conditions. We enable families throughout northern Collin County (Anna, Celina, Farmersville, Frisco, McKinney, Melissa, Princeton and Prosper) to achieve the dream of home ownership and dignity. With the help of partnerships, NCC Habitat has built over 97 houses. We also have started a new program called “A Brush With Kindness” where we help low income families with exterior repairs including roof, siding, paint and general clean up. We’ve served 81 families through this program (mostly seniors). Internationally, NCC Habitat has built 34 homes in Mexico, Egypt, Asia Tsunami and Honduras. Habitat also operates a ReStore that is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday. We sell new and gently used building materials and furniture to the public.
